Odisha Forestry Sector Development Project, Phase-II (OFSDP-II) is being implemented since 2017-18 by Odisha Forestry Sector Development Society under administrative control of Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department, Govt. of Odisha with the loan assistance of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The tenure of the project is for ten years i.e. from 2017-18 to 2026-27.
This projects aim at restoration of degraded forests with the peoples’ participation through Joint Forest Management (IFM). Apart from restoration of degraded forests, the project also committed towards livelihood improvement of the local communities.
Odisha Forestry Sector Development Project Phase – II is being implemented in Jharsuguda Forest Division from FY 2017-18 in batch wise manner. In total 29 VSSs under FMU Belpahar are being covered under 1st batch in the FY 2018-19. 20 VSSs from Bagdihi FMU and 31 VSSs from Kolabira FMU are being covered under 2nd batch in the FY 2019-20. 03 VSSs from Bagdihi FMU and 02 VSSs from Kolabira FMU are being covered under 3rd batch in the FY 2020-21 and the project is being implemented in 3 VSSs i.e one from each FMU in the FY 2021-22.
In total, 1338300 numbers of seedlings have been raised and planted in 2522 Ha. area covering 88 VSSs. Different size of Loose Bolder Check Dams has been constructed and repaired in 109.25 ha JFM mode & in 55.1 ha. Non JFM mode with support of VSS members to control the soil erosion and recharge the ground level water in the forest area. Total 124.13 Km fire line have been constructed around the assigned area & 1558.4 Km fire line have been constructed around the treatment area to prevent the fire inside the plantation area.
In order to improve the tree cover outside the forest area Farm-forestry activities was under taken in the 74 numbers of VSSs. In total 1513 numbers of beneficiaries were selected. In total 394159 seedlings of horticulture, forest species have been planted in 574.43 ha area of private land. Total 137.91 Km RF and PRF boundary pillar have been constructed and repaired under this project. On infrastructure head 88 numbers of VSS building-cum-IGA facilitation center have been constructed and handed over to the VSSs.
Different convergence work like Livestock Vaccination, Fruit bearing trees plantation, Mushroom Cultivation, Fish Cultivation, Marigold Cultivation, Lemon Grass Cultivation,Patato Cultivation, Onion Cultivation, Kitchen Garden , Nutrition Garden, Fruit bearing tree distribution, Mosquito net distribution, Chicks distribution, Country cow distribution, Construction of Cow shed & Goat shed ,Construction of Water Vet Construction of Vermi compost Pit,Vegitable cultivation in Trellis System, Gabion Installation under Farm Forestry, Establishment of Sal Processing Unit at Belpahar Forest Range Office, Organization of Entrepreneur Awareness Camp program for WSHG, Skill Development Training for unemployment Youth, different types of IGA training were under taken with support from the line departments/other agency/organizations for socio economic development of the Community as whole.
